Khao Soi in Portland, Oregon
Khao Soi is the noodle dish of northern Thailand: a coconut curry broth over soft egg noodles, crowned with a nest of crisp fried egg noodles, with shallots and pickled mustard greens on the side to cut the richness.
Most Thai restaurants in the Portland area offer one Khao Soi, if any. We make seven. Same northern-style curry base each time — shallots, pickled mustard and fried shallots served on top of crispy egg noodle — with your choice of what goes in the bowl.
We are at 10574 SE 32nd Ave in Milwaukie, immediately south of SE Portland and a short drive from Sellwood, Westmoreland and Oak Grove.

Which one should you order?
First time? Chicken is the traditional version and the one to judge us by.
Want the richest bowl? Crispy pork belly — the fat renders into the curry as you eat.
No meat? Tofu. Note that it is still made with egg noodles, so it is vegetarian rather than vegan.
Something different? Duck, salmon, braised beef or tempura — none of which you will find on a standard Khao Soi menu.
Questions people ask
- What is Khao Soi?
- Khao Soi is the signature noodle dish of northern Thailand — a coconut curry broth poured over soft egg noodles, topped with a nest of crisp fried egg noodles, and served with shallots and pickled mustard greens. Ours is made northern style with shallots, pickled mustard and fried shallots on top of crispy egg noodle.
- What does Khao Soi taste like?
- Rich and mildly spiced rather than fiery. The broth is coconut-heavy and slightly sweet, and the pickled mustard greens and shallots are there to cut through it. The two noodle textures — soft underneath, crisp on top — are the point of the dish.
- Is Khao Soi spicy?
- Our Khao Soi is prepared at a medium heat level. Tell us when you order if you would like it milder or hotter.
- Is your Tofu Khao Soi vegan?
- No. Khao Soi is built on egg noodles, and our Tofu Khao Soi is made with egg noodles like every other version, so it is not vegan and not egg free. It is the right choice if you do not eat meat, but please call us on (503) 659-0149 if you need us to confirm anything else about how it is prepared.
- Khao Soi vs Pad Thai — what is the difference?
- Pad Thai is a dry stir-fried noodle dish from central Thailand. Khao Soi is a northern curry noodle soup — you eat it from a bowl with a spoon. If you have only ever had Pad Thai, Khao Soi will taste like a different cuisine.
- Where can I get Khao Soi near Portland?
- We serve Khao Soi at 10574 SE 32nd Ave in Milwaukie, Oregon — just south of SE Portland and a short drive from Sellwood, Westmoreland and Oak Grove. You can also order it for pickup or delivery online.
